About

Hi, I'm Alistair Pitt - the man behind Glascoed.com

I’ve never lived in Glascoed, although a part of me is from there – the hamlet lies deep within my DNA! Let me explain.

I’ve always been a bit confused about my national identity, and the more that I have delved into my family history, the more I realise that I have roots in many places rather than just one.

I was born in Carmarthenshire and have lived in England for four years, the Rhymney Valley in South Wales for 31 and have been living in North Wales since 2020. So I guess by that reckoning I am probably Welsh. Or am I? Having a mother who is Scottish through and through and a father from Pontypool – I have at various times described myself as Welsh, Scottish, British and a citizen of the world! One of my colleagues with similar parentage describes herself as “ScWelsh” – or is it “Squelsh”? – so maybe that’s what I am, after all!

I have loved living in each of the hamlets, villages, towns and cities where I put down roots, at least for a while, but a few years ago I landed in a hamlet in a quiet and lovely spot in Denbighshire – living on a farm. Something I never imagined would happen! Life’s a funny old thing sometimes. And this has become my special place – an environment where I can centre and feel at peace. These days, I have little desire to visit, let alone live in a city!

You’ll find other little snippets of my story elsewhere on the site, but if you find it helpful or have stories or information you’d like to share – or even questions you think I can help with, then please get in touch.
